An American citizen living with his Ukrainian wife in the village of Mylov in the Kherson region was abducted from his home by Russian invaders in April 2022. According to Garland, the defendants threw the victim to the ground, tied his hands behind his back, pointed a gun at his head and beat him with kicks, punches and buttocks. The American was jailed and tortured during a 10-day trial.

“They stabbed him in the chest and stomach and threatened to shoot him. Stripped his clothes and photographed him. One of the conspirators threatened him with sexual violence. And during the trial, when the victim’s answers did not satisfy the defendants, we are told that Patnik, who was the commander, threatened to kill the victim and asked him for his last word. ,” Garland said.

He added that this is the first, but not the last, case of war crimes committed by the Russians that the US Department of Justice plans to announce soon.

Earlier, Ukrainian law enforcement officials announced that they suspected the Russian aggressor of the murder of a citizen in the Kiev region.
