Classified: They wanted to overtake Hitler in Brno. This is the strangest event in history

For years, journalist and researcher Jaroslav Mares has been searching for forgotten and secret stories that should forever be locked away in the archives. When the First Republic is mentioned, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a time of liberty, freedom and prosperity. But what if we had become a fascist dictatorship before Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany? What was the Czechoslovak fascist takeover attempt like, and why do we know so little about it?

The failed coup is one of the strangest parts of our history. At the beginning of the story, Ladislav Kopcinek, a member of the National Fascist Society of Kajda, is a first lieutenant in the Czechoslovak army and a decommissioned mentally ill person. He came up with a plan loosely based on Benito Mussolini and his march on Rome. Kopcinek intended to attack two military bases in Brno and drive them into Prague.

In January 1933, the strike units of the Putschists attacked the camps in Zideniz. As slapstick material, the action would be fine if it weren’t for life…
