Biden has openly acknowledged what made him run for a second term

Biden, as the current president, could be the Democratic nominee.

US President Joe Biden has said part of his motivation to run for a second term next year is to prevent a Donald Trump comeback.

“We cannot let him win,” Biden told reporters.

On Fox News, Trump did not rule out abuse of power if he returned to the White House. The Republican said he thinks Biden is too old for such a political overhaul.

None of the candidates is yet the official candidate of their party. Despite four criminal charges against Trump, Trump is leading the Republican race. Biden, as the current president, could be the Democratic nominee.

Current polls point to a hypothetical tight race between the two as the 2024 White House campaign unfolds.

Speaking to reporters off camera at a campaign fundraiser near Boston, Biden said: “If Trump hadn’t run, I don’t know if I would have run. But we can’t let him win.”

The president’s words marked the first time Trump has directly linked his aspirations for a second term with opposition to his bid to return to office.

Then on Tuesday, December 5, Trump appeared on Fox News in Davenport, Iowa. Host Sean Hannity asked: “Do you promise America today that you will never abuse your power to get revenge on someone?”

“Except for the first day,” Trump replied. “I want to close the border, I want to drill, I want to drill.”

Earlier in the interview, Hannity asked the former president if he would “in some way,” if re-elected, use the government to abuse power, break the law, and harass people.

“You mean what are they using now?” Trump responded. He also said he didn’t think Biden would “physically survive” the grueling campaign ahead.

He says his opponent’s mental state is “probably as bad or worse” than his physical state.
