In Telethon’s broadcast, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, commented on the suspicion on social networks that the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces shot down almost all enemy targets that night and that the effects of the Russian attack were caused only by falling debris.
He noted that air defense forces shot down all 28 Russian missiles and 15 of 16 drones during the night.
“Unfortunately, there are casualties during air defense operations. Missiles and debris fall. Debris is different – I want to emphasize, because there are already many videos on Telegram, because “what kind of debris is it when there is an explosion.” It can be an explosion from debris, debris can be different, in the air. There may be debris from an exploding missile or the missile may be damaged by anti-aircraft fire [ракетою ППО]. An anti-aircraft missile does not need to hit an enemy winged aircraft head-on. It explodes nearby, causing it to lose more momentum,” Ignat said.
In this case, according to him, the warhead of the enemy’s cruise missile will already fall down, which may have related consequences.
He also rejected the version of the Russian Federation’s alleged “response” to the night explosions on the territory of the occupied state. Ignat emphasized that the gap between these two events was actually several hours, and that this was not enough to plan a missile attack – the enemy was preparing this strike in advance.
- On the night of August 30, the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine with Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, sea-based missiles and Tu-95MS bombers. All 28 enemy cruise missiles and 15 out of 16 drones were shot down, the Chief of Armed Forces said. Ukrainian border guard sailors shot down a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile over the sea.
- In Kiev, anti-aircraft defenses failed and falling debris caused fires in two districts of the capital. Debris from the rocket fell on the roof of the “Riv Kosh” shopping center. As a result of the Russian attack in various districts of the capital, the number of victims increased to three, two people were killed.
- In the Zhytomyr region, debris from a downed UAV partially damaged an infrastructure object and a railway.
