“Today I spoke with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. A very specific conversation, as much as possible – about our common interests of all Europeans,” Zelenskyy said.
As the president said, he and Michael discussed efforts at European integration and the need for early approval of the negotiating framework for Ukraine — approval by EU member states.
“The goal is completely rational – already in the first half of the year, even by June, we can start the negotiation process. This will be a great signal to all those who do not believe that our unity in Europe is really strengthening. ,” said the head of state.
Accession of Ukraine to the European Union
In December, the heads of state of the European Union agreed to start negotiations for the union of Ukraine during the summit. This happened despite Hungary's threat to block such a decision.
As EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova said recently in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, negotiations could start in the spring.
The Cabinet of Ministers also recently approved a plan of measures to implement the European Commission's recommendations for the opening of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union.
As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently announced, the negotiating framework for Ukraine's accession to the EU will be ready by early summer.
