The explosion occurred at a power substation in Stary Oskol, Belgorod region of the Russian Federation.

Before the flash, there was an explosion at the energy facility and the sound of a drone.

On the evening of Thursday, January 18, residents of the Russian city of Stary Oskol, Belgorod Region, saw bright flashes above one of the local power substations. There were power outages in some parts of the city.

Commenting on the case, Mariupol Mayor's adviser Petro Andryushchenko said, reportedBefore the flash, there is an explosion at the energy facility and the sound of a drone is heard.

“Old Oskol in Belgorod Oblast. UAV sounds. Explosion. A substation is on fire. They are preparing to capture the blackout flash mob from Crimea,” he wrote on the social network.

Meanwhile, local authorities assure that a short circuit occurred simply in the electrical substation at the Stari Oskol locomotive depot. The Russian Emergencies Ministry said there was no fire at the substation, although heavy smoke was seen in the footage released.

It may be recalled that earlier in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation, a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter crashed. While making an emergency landing on the highway, the helicopter snapped a high-voltage power line and blacked out four districts in the area.
