Republican senators asked the White House for a proposal on the issue of securing the US border in the context of an aid agreement for Ukraine.

about this informs Bloomberg quoted Republican senators as making the verbal proposal after a nearly two-hour meeting with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
According to Republican Sen. Tom Tillis, the plan would give the president expanded powers to deport immigrants after a certain number of undocumented immigrants cross the border.
The publication noted that the Biden and former President Donald Trump administrations used a similar policy of deporting immigrants, known as Section 42, for public health reasons during the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the same time, immigrant rights advocates say such a policy would deprive vulnerable immigrants of their right to seek asylum in the United States.
Tillis, a key negotiator, said Republicans should “tweak” the White House proposal slightly and “see if it’s serious or not.”
Another Republican, Ohio Sen. James David Vance noted that the issue has become somewhat clearer since the White House’s intervention, but stressed that a final deal will not be ready “any time soon.”
Chief GOP negotiator, Sen. James Lankford said there was nothing on paper from the White House.
Republicans in the Senate and House of Representatives have pushed for changes to US border policy, a necessary condition for the Biden administration to seek approval for a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine.
Republican Tom Tillis and top Democrat Chris Murphy said Congress should stay in session until a deal is reached.
