A historic deal
Historic Agreement: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German President Olaf Scholz signed a bilateral agreement on defense cooperation between the countries. Scholes first announced it on the X social network (formerly Twitter) on February 16. At the end of the message, Sholes shouted “Glory to Ukraine!” It is noteworthy that he wrote:
“Today, Volodymyr Zelensky and I signed an agreement on our long-term obligations in the field of defense. A historic step. Germany will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia's war of aggression. Glory to Ukraine!”.
At the same time Zelensky announced some details of the deal in a Telegram. The document sets German military support for Ukraine at over €7 billion for this year, and provides for an emergency consultation mechanism in the event of a future Russian armed attack on Ukraine:
“An unprecedented document establishing German support to Ukraine of over 7 billion euros this year. These specific agreements are weapons that already exist. The agreement contains Germany's clear position on economic sanctions against the aggressor, tribunal and frozen assets.”
With this, Germany becomes a guarantee country for the first time in its history. German Defense Minister Pistorius said this while commenting on the agreement between Ukraine and Germany on “security guarantees”. After signing the document, Zelenskyi and Scholz went to a joint conference where Germany's Federal Chancellor pledged to support Ukraine in building modern armed forces to deter future aggression from Russia.

Scholz also reported a significant package of military aid to Ukraine. The chancellor also noted that Germany has pledged a total of 28 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine. This year, the new aid package will include howitzers, bombs, and the Germans will also strengthen air defense systems.
