According to David Martinek, spokesman for the Zlín Regional Fire Rescue Service, 27 professional and volunteer units were involved in its liquidation. After about four hours of intervention, they were able to bring the fire under control, ČTK reported. Paramedics treated an injured firefighter. He suffered second degree burns.

Hall fire on Tomáš Bata Avenue in Otrokovice; Wednesday, August 23, 2023

“The hall and the adjoining mall are on fire on the spot. A special status alarm has been declared,” the fire department said on Wednesday morning David Martinek.
The Otrokovická Town Hall reported via social media and a warning text message that the fire broke out in the premises on Tomáš Bata Avenue before 6:30 a.m. and units of the Integrated Rescue System were on the scene.
“There is no ignition of hazardous materials, but we still recommend not staying in a smoking area and not ventilating. Expect traffic restrictions,” the town hall warned in a message.
Due to the fire on Tomáš Bata Avenue, electricity supply was also interrupted in the area. The city reported it on its news channel. “The exact list of items or the outcome of the shutdown has yet to be determined,” Town Hall said.
A firefighter was injured while fighting the fire. A spokesman said shortly after 9am Medical Rescue Services of the Zlín Region Gabriela Netophilova Slustikova, three paramedics at the fire in Otrokovice.
“So far, we have taken one burned firefighter from the scene to Tomasz Bata Regional Hospital. He suffered second-degree burns on his hands,” explained Gabriela Netophilova Slustikova.
According to firefighters, it is still too early to determine the cause of the fire or determine the extent of the damage. Firefighters extinguished the fire with high-altitude equipment.
Public transport in Otrokovice is using alternative routes due to the large-scale fire

“There are delays of up to ten minutes on the lines. Passengers are being informed about the diversion on the electronic stop panels. We expect this state of emergency to remain in effect throughout today,” the chief dispatcher added.
