UK election: PM Sunak’s party to lose, poll predicts defeat

According to the results of parliamentary elections held on Thursday, July 4, Great Britain’s Conservative Party finds itself in a minority after 14 years in power.

This is evidenced by a poll published after 22:00 London time (00:00 Kyiv time) reviewed by “European Truth”.

A poll by Ipsos UK for Sky News, BBC and ITV News predicted the opposition Labor Party would win 410 seats, giving them a 170-seat majority.

However, the result falls short of the 419-seat victory Labor won under Tony Blair in 1997, and some polls predict that Keir Starmer’s party could have made even better gains.

On the other hand, the Conservative Party will only get 131 seats, losing the majority of 365 mandates it won in early elections in 2019.

British election: Conservative and Labor leaders have already voted

According to the exit poll, the Liberal Democrats are in third place with 61 seats, six more than the party in the current House of Commons.

Nigel Farage’s Eurosceptic Reform UK Party could win 13 seats despite a series of scandals during the campaign. This was a much better result than the polls had predicted before polling day.

After all, the Scottish National Party is down to 10 seats, according to exit polls, and the Greens can count on two seats in the House of Commons. Smaller political forces and independent politicians will get another 19 mandates.

Final results will be available on Friday morning, July 5. However, exit poll results generally leave no doubt that Labor will win a single majority in the House of Commons and Keir Starmer will take over as British Prime Minister.
