ANO wants Klara Dostalová as Vice-President of the European Parliament

During the post-election negotiations on positions in the European Parliament, the ANO Movement will try to replace the current Chamber’s Deputy Speaker and the newly elected ANO MEP Klara Tostalova as the EP’s Vice-President. Newly elected ANO MEP Jaroslava Pokorná Jermanová also said this on CNN Prima News’ Sunday debate show Party.

Debaters disagree on the identity of the new Czech European Commissioner. STAN MP Michaela Šebelová said on television that the national STAN committee will decide on the nominations early next week and that there are at least three candidates.

Shadow Culture Minister Pokorná Jermanová said that post-election negotiations are already underway and will continue next week. When the presenter asked if there was one of the conditions for Dostalova to become the deputy speaker of the parliament, she replied that yes, it was completely natural. “So we consider it completely natural. Clara (Dostálová) is our leader and I think, as one of the strongest, we have the right to it. So we will definitely fight for it,” he said.

Czech MEPs have already held this position several times. The vice-president, for example Pirát Marcel Kolaja or Dita Charanzová, is a non-party member originally elected for ANO.

Regarding the candidates for the position of European Commissioner, Šebelová confirmed the previous statement of the Prime Minister Peter Fiala (ODS), that the Pirates and the STAN Federation, respectively, should propose a name for the European Commissioner. There is frequent speculation about newly elected MEP Danuša Nerudová and Industry Minister Jozef Síkel (STAN). “There are at least three names in play,” Cephalova said. In the debate, the referee also mentioned the names of Deputy Finance Minister Marek Mora and EU Ambassador Edita Harde.

Marek Benda, president of the ODS Parliamentary Club, reminded that the government will decide on the appointment. “We respect the pledge proposed by STAN,” he pointed out. Sepelova called off discussion on replacing Sigela in her ministerial post, but promised that STAN would find a suitable candidate.

Benda reminded that the candidate for the post of European Commissioner for the Czech party should come to introduce himself to the members of the Committee on European Affairs. The committee will then discuss his appointment.
