On the morning of Saturday, May 27, a special bus will depart from Jablonec nad Nizo to Minichove Hradisti. They will be remembered there 70 years of the Lias brand.
The fate of the famous car did not let many enthusiasts sleep, otherwise Ondage Liska, a businessman in the field of earthworks, decided to buy it. “We immediately started the restoration work. First, we had to get as much information as possible about the car,” Liska recounted.
Like most of the residents of Mnichova Hradiště or Jablonec nad Nisou, he was deeply affected by the Lias brand. “Hradiště Liazem lived many years after the biggest successes of the brand. Every time I went home after training, I saw how many cars they built every day. In the 1990s, at first there were three cars a day, then one, and eventually only one car a week. ” said Liska.
As a tradesman who works with heavy equipment, he is not intimidated by the demanding task of renovation. Members of the legendary team of Jablonec Jiří Moskal, Jaroslav Joklík and František Vojtíšek helped him with the authenticity of the special reconstruction. Probably a very middle name. “As a technical consultant. Since 1988, we’ve tried to make it absolutely identical, technically and graphically,” Joklik explained.
As Liska points out, Jaroslav Joklik contributed greatly to authenticity, because the car was unrecognizable not only to ordinary people. “The cab, axles, chassis, gearbox came from a racing special. This particular car was the only Dakar special with a nine-speed gearbox. The other competitors didn’t like her because she was in bad shape with her,” Liska explained.

An interesting feature of Tucker cars are the fast, so-called tractor axles. “Simply the rear axle is swapped to the front axle. Only Tucker vehicles had that,” noted the car’s current owner.
After winning the Paris-Tucker Rally, the machine ended up being the accompanying vehicle for the Rally of the Pharos in 1992, after which it slowly drifted into “retirement”. At first it served as a test car. The truck disappeared. “The car was parked in Milada Boleslaw. The old people of Lyasak knew about it, and when I found out, I went to buy it,” 40-year-old Liska added.

The restoration took almost a year. Not all items available. Tanks or rear shock absorbers have updated car from Tatra. “Ironically, getting the rear fenders was the biggest problem. Today, you can only find plastic ones, and the tin ones ended up in the trash a long time ago. It took us three-quarters of a year to get about ten mudguards, and we collected four of them,” Liska explained. They built the box themselves under the watchful supervision of witnesses in the workshop.
The restored car has already been driven a few times, but the owner won’t let it off the road. “It would be a mess. At most, I’ll run him over the field with a Reaper,” Liska concluded.
For the first time, the updated machine will be presented to the public at a commemorative event in Munich Hradiste on Saturday, May 27. The city will commemorate 70 years since the start of production of Lias trucks at the former local plant and 20 years since the last car.
